We disembarked around 9am and took the shuttle from the ship over to the airport.
The plan was for Beth and I to check our bags at the airport, then John & Krissy would pick us up and we would head out for a day of exploring.
Unfortunately, we got to the airport by 9:30 or so and found out that the check in counters were closed until 1pm. Frank’s wife, Mary Ellen still wasn’t feeling great, so she offered to stay at the airport and watch our bags while Beth, Frank, and I went out.

11/18/06 Martinique
When I woke up, we were already docked at a shipyard in Martinique. I grabbed my backpack and headed into the city of Fort de France. The walk was bout a 15 minute walk into the city, where I walked around just taking in the sights.
I ran into my friend Frank walking around as well, his wife had stayed on board since she wasn’t feeling very well. We spent the rest of the morning just walking all over the city and then headed back to the ship for lunch. At the cocktail party the night before, Captain Sergey had told me that Ile des Saintes was his favorite island. When we got there, I could tell why. We anchored off the island Terre de Haut and the tenders took us to the tiny village of Le Bourg. I took the tender over to Le Bourg to do some souvenir shopping and to see the village.

When I woke up, we were already anchored at Basseterre where the launches brought people to shore for the excursions.
Around 9:30 or so, we pulled anchored and moved a few miles down the coast to Friar’s Bay, where we anchored off a beautiful beach and the tenders started running people back and forth to the beach.
The beach at Friar’s Bay had a huge reef running parallel to the shoreline, so I went snorkeling for about 2 hours. The reef was very active, I saw tons of fish, eels, sand dollars, sea urchins and squid. When I finally came up to see where I w...... Read More

I finally got up early enough to catch the sunrise. I met another one of our members, John, up at the bridge watching the sunrise.

Early the next morning I got up and went down to the weight room to work out. As I was about to step up onto the treadmill, I found that I had a problem. I’m 6’5” tall and when standing on the floor, only had about 3 or 4 inches of head room. I realized I couldn’t stand up straight on the treadmill, so running was out of the question. I decided to use one of the stationary bikes instead. I decided that for the rest of the cruise, I would have to get my exercise elsewhere.
