Day Seven - May 23, 2009
Moorea, Opunohu Bay -- We had planned to go back to the Hilton, where we had stayed prior to the cruise for snorkeling. But where we tendered was pretty far from the resort and we didn’t have a lot of time on the island to waste driving around. Our Polynesian hostess, Cynthia, suggested that we go to the beach at a hotel called Les Tipaniers instead. We took a free shuttle there from the dock which was very convenient. While the beach there wasn’t much to speak of, the snorkeling was nice. The water was very shallow and there was a lot to see. I saw massi...... Read More

Day Six - May 22, 2009
Bora Bora -- This island and lagoon really are as stunning as everyone says. Before getting there I had a hard time fathoming a place with water more beautiful than Moorea's. I have never seen so many shades of blue and green in water like this, and with the backdrop of Mt. Otemanu there were also breathtaking views of Bora Bora. To get the most out of our short time here we did two excursions. In the morning we did the 4x4 tour. There really isn’t much to the island itself, but the views from the top of the mountains were astounding. This was the roughest of all...... Read More

Day Five - May 21, 2009

Taha'a -- We did a 4x4 tour of this island as well. We drove around the island and through the mountains, visited a vanilla farm and a pearl farm. The interior of the island was beautiful and we saw some nice vistas. At the best viewpoint our guides sang and served us fruit and juice.

Day Four - May 20, 2009
Raiatea -- We did our tour of Raiatea in a 4x4. We drove into the mountains where we saw some amazing views, visited marae which were right on the water in quite a beautiful location, and visited a vanilla farm and pearl farm. It was a bit rainy so we rode with the top up. This was welcomed, as we didn’t get too wet. However, it seemed like every time we made a stop to get out of the 4x4, it would stop raining so we could see the sights. We enjoyed having the opportunity to see the interior of the island on this tour.

Day Three - May 19, 2009
Huahine -- We did a lagoon cruise and snorkel on Huahine. There were about 15 people on the snorkel tour and we cruised along the coastline to our stop (which was off of a motu). This was the best snorkeling that we had seen so far. The water was only about 10 feet deep in spots, with much of it less than that. Marine life was everywhere and the water was clear. We had over an hour to snorkel here so we were able to take our time.

Day Two - May 18, 2009
Moorea, Cooks Bay -- We did not book a cruise ship excursion on this day as we had already done a lot of activities on Moorea during our pre-cruise stay. But one of the things I wish we’d done while on Moorea was visit a motu (small island) and snorkel there. So while we were in port, we went to the Intercontinental Resort and took the boat transfer over to the motu. We found a shady place to sit and snorkeled. The snorkeling was great and we saw a wide variety of fish and coral. It was in fairly shallow water, but a little deeper than what we experienced at our...... Read More
